The issue in GetHuman-bobbyoma's own words
On *******, I made a phone inquiry to New York Sports Club on Austin Street in Forest Hillsm NY about student specials and was told that there is currently a $**.** special that cancels on September *, **** with a College I.D. When I arrived at the gym later at *:** p.m. I was assisted by Layla who was at the front desk. She explained other plans, but I told her I wanted the College $**,** Special as I would only be in town for * weeks. She then had me sign on the screen and I gave her my Chase card for payment,. When I inquired why the charge was higher, I was informed that there is a Joining Fee. At no time was I provided a copy of the Membership Agreement or any other Membership information such as I.D. Number or Membership Card. Layla asked me for a Password then I later noticed I received an email for the charges and another email that an online account was created, but no information on how to access it. No one showed me around the gym or gave me any information on how to use the machines.**I started to work out. My parents then contacted me to pick me up and I mentioned the additional charge above the $**.** mentioned on the phone. When my parents arrived at the gym, they inquired about the Student Special. Layla told them she was not aware of ther terms of a Student Special, leaving the desk to go in the back but did not have any more information. When my parents asked to see the membership plans in print, Layla informed them that there is "nothing in print" but they can "watch a screen at the club" to find out information. She also wrote this on a small sticky note. She then asked my parents for my phone number to check. When she looked up my phone number and confirmed my name, she said, "oh he wanted a Student Special? He's signed up for the Summer Special Neighborhood Plan with **% for two months, and $**.** per month. My parents texted me and I confirmed that this was never discussed as I asked for the $**,** Student Special that was mentioned on the phone since I would only be using the gym for three weeks. **My parents then told Layla that I wished to cancel the membership as it is not what I requested. Layla provided a form and asked my parents to complete for my signature as it was close to closing time. They asked her for my Membership Number to complete the form but she said they would have to wait for me to give it to them. When I finished working out, I went to finish the form and sign but did not have the Membership Number since it was not provided to me in any form. Layla then looked on the computer and read the Membership Number for me to write on the form. She signed the form and said I would need to come back the next day for Jessica the Manger to approved. I told her I work in Manhattan and would not be able to come in earlier than *:**-*:** p.m. Layla said Jessica would be gone already and asked for my mother's phone number so Jessica could call her. Since my mother did not receive a call, she called on ******* around noon, asking for Jessica. My mother said she is in a meeting for the next hour. I emailed all the details to Jessica. My mother called again at *:** and spoke to Juan again who said she's still in a meeting. My mother asked what Jessica's hours are and Juan said she's a new manager and he's not sure what her hours are. Juan said he arrived for work at * a.m. and Jessica has been in a meeting the whole time. When my mother mentioned that Jessica is supposed to call regarding the cancellation of my membership, Juan said to just go online * at newyorksportsclub.com and request that. There is no optiion to cancel on the website as Juan mentioned.
