If you set up a Google/Gmail account previously on your phone, great, you can use it to unlock your device. Take the following steps to unlock your phone:

You can also use the following method to unlock your phone if you have an Android Device Manager installed and enabled on your phone. Here are the steps to take:
Use another mobile device or a computer to visit the website found here
Use the Google login details that you set for the phone that's locked, to log in.
In the Android Device Manager, select the phone that you want to unlock (if not already selected)
Tap or select "Lock"
Enter a temporary password in the window that is displayed when prompted
Select "Lock" one more time
If you followed the instructions correctly and were successful, a confirmation should appear right below the box that contains buttons that read "Ring", "Lock," and "Erase"
You should also see a password field where you can now type in the temporary password that you created in step 5
Once you enter the correct password, your phone will be unlocked.
