Are there any discounts available for senior citizens or students?

Asked 6 months ago
Yes, discounts are offered to both senior citizens and students by New York MTA. Senior citizens aged 65 or above can enjoy reduced fares, amounting to approximately 50% off regular fares, on both subway and buses. They can apply for a Senior MetroCard at any MTA subway station booth or through the mail. Additionally, senior citizens who are eligible for Medicare can request a reduced-fare Medicare card to access further discounts. Students can also benefit from reduced-fare MetroCards. Children aged 5-11 can receive a discounted fare on the buses, while students aged 11-18 can obtain a Student MetroCard for discounted fares on subways and buses. These discounted MetroCards are available through educational institutions and are valid only during weekdays.
