How Do I Apply for Unemployment Benefits with the Hawaii Department of Labor and Industrial Relations?

Visit the Hawaii Department of Labor and Industrial Relations Homepage:

Find the Hawaii Department of Labor and Industrial Relations website and visit the homepage.

Once you have reached the homepage, find the Unemployment Insurance department. You can do this by hovering your mouse over the Divisions tab, which is located on the main navigation bar at the top of the screen.

Click on the Unemployment Insurance option from the Divisions menu to be transported to the online services.

Find the Online Unemployment Insurance Services Page:

Scroll down the Unemployment Insurance page until you see the Online Services button and select the Online Services button to view the drop-down menu. From the drop-down menu, click on the File and Unemployment Claim link.

You will then be transferred to the claim page.

It is important to note that you can only apply for Unemployment Benefits from the Hawaii Department of Labor and Industrial Relations between 6:30 am and 11:00 pm HST Monday to Friday, and 9:00 am to 11:00 pm HST on weekends.

If you are applying during these times, click on the green For New Claims, Please Complete This Form, button at the bottom of the page.

Apply for Unemployment Benefits:

To start your application, you need to compile personal information and the details of your most recent employment. The information required includes:

  • Your Social Security Number
  • Your mailing address, telephone, and email address
  • Number of dependants and their date of birth
  • Your most recent employer's name, business name, and address
  • The type of work you completed
  • The start and end dates of your employment
  • The reason for your unemployment

You also need to complete the eligibility questionnaire and complete the authorization agreement segment.

Once you have entered all of your details correctly and completed the form, click on the Submit My Initial Claim Application button at the bottom of the form.

If you have carefully followed each of these steps, but you still can't apply for unemployment benefits, you need to contact the Hawaii Department of Labor and Industrial Relations customer service team.
