This number is only useful if you happen to be a Verizon customer, as it's the direct line to the Verizon assistant. When you call, If you are a Verizon customer, you're immediately greeted by the assistant and told that your number has been validated by the fact that you've called from a Verizon number. The system explains that should you need to further validate your number, you'll be asked to do so later in the call.
I initially asked the system if I could check my account balance, and the system confirmed that my last bill had been paid on time. I then asked when my next bill was due, and it provided the applicable due date and confirmed that it would be the same date each month.
I followed by asking how long my contract was for, and the system told me that it could send me a link with a copy of my two most recent bills to the number I was calling from. If I wanted, I could also request a paper copy of either of my two most recent bills, which would likely take up to 10 days to receive by mail. I declined to do that and asked if I could check whether I was eligible to upgrade to a new phone.
The system told me it could not verify my eligibility because I was not listed as the account owner. I could ask to be added as the account owner, or I could go back to a previous menu or the main menu. I asked to go to the main menu; however, the system hung up on me upon making that request.
Overall, I thought there were some good things and some bad things with this call. On the plus side, I had no problem getting answers to simple questions about my account, and the system was able to verify who I was rather easily. On the other, the system can't give you much information beyond the basics unless you're considered the account owner, and if you aren't yet a customer, it doesn't offer any help. It's also not very helpful to have the system hang up when you try to go back to the main menu, even if there is no wait to talk to the system.
I'd only recommend calling this number if you happen to already be a Verizon customer, as it can't help anyone who isn't. Even then, I'd only call for the most basic information, as it's not an extensive system and doesn't provide any kind of menu to help you get new information.
